Our favorite tip of this holiday season -- if you have no time to run to a store for some last minute item? How about sugar to decorate those cookies?
HOMEMADE COLORED
SUGAR
If you're making cut-out cookies this holiday season, you may want to
finish them with colored sugar instead of buying expensive decorations.
Follow these simple instructions for making colored sugar at home:
1. Sprinkle about 1/2 cup granulated sugar evenly over the bottom of
a pie plate or metal bowl, add about 5 drops of food coloring, and
mix thoroughly.
2. To be sure the color is evenly distributed, push the sugar through a
fine sieve. Spread the sugar on a pie plate or baking sheet and let dry
for about 15 minutes.
If you make several different colors of sugar, a muffin tin is a perfect
container to hold them in while you're decorating.
