Ground Beef with Twenty-five Thousand Dollar Dumplings

2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons dry onion soup mix
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
1/4 cup butter
1 (8-ounce)can mushroom stems and pieces with liquid
1 (10-3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 2/3 cups water

Sauce (optional)

1 (10-3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
2 teaspoons dried minced onion
1/2 cup sour cream

Butter-Crumb Dumplings

2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon poppy seed    
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning

¼
cup vegetable oil                                                                                     
3/4 cup plus
2 tablespoons milk                                                                                                   
¼ cup melted butter                                                                              
2 cups soft bread crumbs
