Date Bars (Hilda Hallock)We include these with our special Christmas Cookie Assortment
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup flour, sifted,
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups dates (pitted and slices)
1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Line baking pan with waxed paper.
Slowly add sugar to beaten eggs. Mix well. Add flour, sifted with salt and baking powder. Beat smooth. Stir in vanilla. Add dates and nuts.
Pour into a 13x9-inch pan, lined with wax paper.
Bake in a moderate oven (350° F. ) about 30 minutes.
While warm, cut into 1” x 4” bars and roll in confectioners’ sugar.
Store in air-tight container.
Yield: 2 dozen bars
